Routine oral examinations and hygiene cleanings at Country Club Dental Centre in Nanaimo can help you prevent any dental issues and keep your smile healthy.
Oral Examinations
Ideally twice a year, you'll see your dentist for a regular oral exam. This gives them the opportunity to identify any emerging oral health issues and develop a plan to treat them accordingly.
During this exam, your dentist will closely check the condition of your teeth, gums, jaw and bite. Exams can also include an oral cancer screening, dental x-rays and other diagnostic procedures that may be required.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer can infect any part of your mouth or surrounding tissues. During your exam, your dentist will examine your face, lips, neck, throat, tongue, gums and tissues for any signs of oral cancer, which can be difficult to detect with the naked eye.
Oral Health Care at Home
Keep your smile healthy between dental appointments by brushing your teeth twice daily for two minutes each time. We recommend flossing at least once per day.
Hygiene Cleaning
The deep cleaning is a critical part of your oral exam. Your dental hygienist will complete this task before or after your exam to prevent and treat disease.
To start, a scaler will be used to remove any plaque buildup and tartar. Next, the hygienist will use a polisher topped with coarse toothpaste to eliminate any plaque or leftover stains, followed by a thorough flossing of your teeth and gums.
Fluoride Treatment
If your dentist finds that you or your child are at high risk of tooth decay, a fluoride treatment may be recommended. This natural mineral can help to rebuild minerals in your tooth enamel to prevent or reverse tooth decay.
